Huawei P9 vs LG G5

With new smartphones being launched in the market every few months, the latest in the line up are the LG G5 and the flagship phone of Huawei which is the Huawei P9. With speculations abuzz in the technology sector a couple of months prior to the launch of both the products, let us have a look at both the phones and then you can decide which one is better. The LG G5 was launched earlier this year in February while the Huawei P9 came out in second quarter of this year.


Display of the phones

Coming to another important area of interest is the storage of both the phones. Talk about the internal storage of LG G5 and you only get a 32GB variant. On the other hand, the Huawei P9 comes with both 32 GB and 64 GB variants.

However, LG has smartly made up for this shortcoming by adding a microSD card slot that can be expanded upto 200GB in a dedicated slot. And Huawei has just added a 128 GB microSD card support which can be only placed in the second sim card slot. You are smart enough to guess the clear winner here.

Performance and Battery

The phones come with a RAM of 4 GB, the LG G5 has 2.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and the P9 comes with a 1.8GHz octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 955 processor. LG has gone a notch higher in the performance sector by adding Adreno 530 to take care of the graphics of the phone.

On the battery front, the Huawei P9 emerges as a clear winner with a 3,000 mAh battery and the LG G5 comes with 2,800 mAh battery. However, the LG G5 has a removable battery and can be replaced with other amazing accessories.


If you love taking photos, then the Huawei P9 is the best option for you as it comes with a power packed rear camera of 12 MP with leica optics on the back. The front camera of this phone is of 8 MP that supports 1,080p. The LG G5 is not far behind as it is equipped with a rear dual camera configuration of 16MP and 8MP sensors. The front camera is of 8MP shooter at 1,080p.

Both the phones have flash at the rear camera and the front camera comes without this feature. For people who love photography, the Huawei P9 is the one that will fulfil all your photography needs. When it comes to ports, both the phones are equipped with a Type C 1.0 reversible connector.

The deciding features

Moving on from the essential features, let us talk about the distinct features that will decide the faith of the two phones. While the LG G5 is already winning, it has more features which will incline you buy this phone. The features that are exclusive to LG G5 are the cam plus, Hi-Fi Plus, 360 Cam and the Rolling Bot.
While the Cam Plus helps you turn this smartphone in an amazing camera phone and you get great blast sound with the Hi-Fi plus, the 360 Cam and the Rolling Bot fulfil similar purpose of helping you take pictures from different perspectives. The Huawei P9 doesn’t have any other distinct feature to show for, except it can churn out great photographs.

Both the phones are out in the market and at seemingly same price rate. £424 is the price at which the LG G5 SIM Free is available on Amazon in UK and compare LG G5 Contract prices at Zapact in UK. And the Huawei P9 is coming at the price of £479 for the 32GB model and £495 for the 64GB model.

The verdict is simple. The features of the LG G5 outweigh that of P9 and the price is almost similar for both the phones. You are the best judge and if you are leaning on the Leica optics of the Huawei P9 model, then you should go for it as it will give you a great camera.
